Man sentenced to 30 years in prison for rape

Nhlanhla Surprise Mabuza was sentenced to 30 years in prison by the Eerstehoek Magistrate Court in Elukwatini for raping three women around the Tjakastad area, near Badplaas.

In 2013 the accused, who was 20 years old at the time, raped a 33-year-old woman who was on her way to fetch her children from the babysitter at about 20:30.
He manhandled the victim, overpowered and raped her. At the time she could not identify him as he was wearing a balaclava. After her ordeal, a similar incident took place in the area. A 16-year-old girl was sent to a nearby tuck shop when an unknown man approached her, forcefully took her to a secluded area and raped her.

Two years later, in August 2015, two women who were asleep in a shared room were woken by the accused, robbed of cash and one of them was raped.

During the sentencing, the magistrate praised the investigating team for being able to synergistically   knit all the evidence together. They positively linked the accused through blood samples and an diligent investigation. He also thanked the victims for standing firm against their attacker by providing vital evidence, which helped the court to pin down the attacker, hence the meted sentence.
