Water levels at Driekoppies Dam continue to decline

The average water levels in the dams of the province had decreased by 0.90% from last week’s 68.0% to 67.1% as recorded on Monday.

Water levels at the Driekoppies Dam in the Nkomazi Local Municipality are said to be continually declining.

Mr Themba Khoza, spokesperson of water and sanitation said water levels at the dam had declined below the 40% mark as it recorded a 0.70% decrease in water levels from 39.5% to 38.8% as recorded in the department’s weekly state of reservoirs report of November 13

Khoza adds that serious rainfall is still needed to improve the dam levels of the province.
The average water levels in the dams of the province had decreased by 0.90% from last week’s 68.0% to 67.1% as recorded on Monday.

“Water levels in the water management areas also continue to decline, with the water levels in the Olifants water management area decreasing by 1.10% from 65.3% to 64.2% and the Inkomati-Usuthu water management area decreasing by 0.80% from 66.9% to 66. 1%,” he said

“In general, all the major dams in the province recorded continuous declines in water volumes, with only the Jericho Dam recording a slight 0.20% increase from 67.4% to 67.6% and the Da Gama Dam unchanged at 72.9%” he added.

He urges members of the public to behave in a responsible manner and practice water conservation methods in all their activities.

“Let us all play our part in ensuring water supply security in our water scarce country by using the available water wisely and sparingly for the benefit of all in the long run,” he concluded
