SASSA warns beneficiaries about the dangers of green cards
Beneficiaries must note that SASSA has no control over the green card and it does not recognise it
South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) is warning all beneficiaries about green cards that are given to beneficiaries by money lending companies. Green cards are not a SASSA card. SASSA cards are only available at SASSA offices.
Money lending companies give beneficiaries these cards because it makes it easier for them to deduct money from their social grants.

SASSA has noticed that there are some beneficiaries who are still using the green card to receive their grants. Beneficiaries must note that SASSA has no control over the green card and it does not recognise it. All social grant recipients who utilise the green card are not protected if something happens to their social grant.
The only recognised and protected card is the SASSA payment card. SASSA is requesting beneficiaries to use their SASSA payment card to access social grants.
