Coffin assault case sentencing postponed to Friday

Witnesses including the convicted men and victim, Victor Mlotshwa were called to the stand prior to sentencing where one of the accused said he regretted not taking Mlotshwa to the police.

The convicted Coffin assault duo, Theo Jackson and Willem Oosthuizen appeared in the Middleburg Magistrate’s Court yesterday for sentencing after they were found guilty of assault, attempted murder, kidnapping and intimidation on August 25.

A video emerged of the two men forcing Mlotshwa into a coffin and threatening to set it alight. It is alleged this was sparked by that they had found Mlotshwa in possession of suspected stolen copper cables‚ but these were never produced.

Sentencing was postponed to Friday after the defence and prosecution presented their arguments in mitigation and aggravation of sentence.
