Road accidents claim seven lives over the weekend

Family members of one of the deceased alleged that there was a seventh occupant in the crash where the vehicle crashed into the bridge.

A total of seven people died on the road over the weekend leaving two in a critical condition. Last night a sedan travelling from Carolina to Hendrina crashed into the Vaal River bridge on the R38 road.

The driver and three passengers died at the scene while another passenger died later at the Carolina Hospital and while the other was transported to Sunshine Hospital in Johannesburg. One of the deceased was a three-year-old child.

In a separate incident, three people died when a white Ford Ranger travelling from New Denmark to Charl Cilliers road crashed into a Nissan bakkie. The driver of the Ranger and two passengers also died at the scene.
