Afro soul singer ready for take-off

Semito, the Afro-soul singer from Botshabelo in the Free State, whose real name is Monyake Liphoko (26), said his album is inspired by his past life experiences and love.

“I want people to relate to my music,.” he says.

Coming from a musical background, Monyake started singing at the age of six. He used to sing to his family during their evening prayer sessions. He says because his parents were strict, they wanted him to further his studies and stop singing. ‘’I decided to do human resource management because it will come in handy when it comes to the business side of my singing career as I am planning to have my own record label one day,” he added.

In 2014 he joined a afro-soul band and started composing his own songs.

“I took my demo to Mosupatsela FM, and the response was very positive. Most people motivated me. Last year I took my demo to Thuso Motaung of Lesedi FM, when he heard my songs, he introduced me to Robby Malinga who signed me on the spot,” he said.

He recorded his album titled, Sebabatso last year and it was released in April this year.
Monyake says his music is for everyone, from pre-school kids to adults. He has also featured Robby Malinga in one of his songs titled, Kanti unje.
