Local offenders join national hunger strike

Area commissioner, Mr Solly Netshivhazwaulu will address inmates who embarked on a hunger strike

BARBERTON – Offenders at Medium B correctional centre have joined eight correctional centres in the country on a hunger strike action.
Speaking to Mpumalanga News, one of the offenders, who is known to this publication, said they are fed up of the management in the centre which is accused of allegedly delaying the process of their parole applications.

About 140 parolees’ applications of offenders are on backlog, but 47 offenders are demanding to see the minister of correctional service, Adv Micheal Masutha.

The spokesperson of the facility, Mr Mesia Hlungwane confirmed that the area commissioner is expected to address the offenders.
