Trio nabbed before a planned robbery

The police arrested the men who are remanded in custody. One of them is linked to other crimes, however, a formal bail application will be done tomorrow.

NELSPRUIT – Three suspects, Mathew Buti Mutau, Brown Seema and Tshepo Nyathi aged 31, Seema and Nytahi both 33 appeared before the Mdutjana Magistrate’s Court in Siyabuswa facing charges of possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

This follows police responded to after receiving information yesterday relating to the trio who were in a certain house at Maganagobuswa in Siyabuswa. They were allegedly planning to rob one of the shops at Moutsiya Mall in the area.

Police followed a lead and rushed to the house in question. Upon entry, police managed to confiscate three loaded firearms from the suspects.

“A profile of the suspect Matthew Mutau was positively linked to additional charges of murder, attempted murder and business robbery which took place last Monday, June 19 at Pieterskraal near Siyabuswa. During that robbery, it was reported that four armed suspects stormed into a shop where they tried to rob the owner of his firearm as well as cash. A shootout ensued which resulted in one of the suspects being fatally wounded and the shop owner injured on the arm. The other suspects then fled the scene leaving their fatally wounded partner in crime behind,” said Sergeant Gerald Sedibe.
