Mabuza to build 1000 RDP houses for mine community

LOUISVILLE – Premier, Mr David Mabuza has committed to build 1 000 RDP houses for residents living adjacent the closed Lily Mine in an effort to create an opportunity for employment and housing for the local community.
This was confirmed yesterday at the two hour-long meeting he held with locals where dissatisfaction was expressed about the lack of government services and economic activities. Speaking at the Thusong Centre, Mabuza said the houses estimated to accommodate around 6 000 families, would be built by 2019.

“Housing construction and maintenance will be done by locals as unemployment is high in this community following the mine collapse last year. We want the people here to live a better life just like anybody else. They should also enjoy the fruits of their freedom.

“We want the people to be able to have food on the table and to have shelter they will call home while we deal with the Lily Mine issue. We definitely want the mine to open for operations, but at the same time we are committed to changing the lives of the people,” said Mabuza.
