Police officer jailed for murder
A police officer arrested for the murder of a car wash employee two years ago, was finally sentenced on March 3.
PIENAAR – Mr Mfanfikile Leonard Mkhonza, a former police officer from Pienaar police station was found guilty for the murder of Mr Mduduzi Charles Zulu whom he shot dead on December 12, 2015 for no apparent reason at his working place in Pienaar.
Mkhonza pleaded guilty to the charges of murder and the Graskop Magistrate’s Court sentenced him to 17 years, five of which are suspended for five years.
The matter was investigated by the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID).
The sentencing brought closure to the deceased’s mother, Ms Goodness Msibi and her family. “My soul is now at peace that finally justice has been done. We have regained trust in the police which was slowly fading away,” says Msibi.
