Ama-Wheelies members cry foul against negligence
Wheelchair-bound citizens in Mbombela have been angered by the negligence meted against them by the City of Mbombela Local Municipality.
MBOMBELA – Members of Ama-Wheelies have accused the City of Mbombela Local Municipality of neglecting them
This comes after the municipality failed to respond to a petition that was handed over during the road safety awareness drive last year.
They raised a number of grievances which include the bad state of roads in various townships which are not user-friendly to people who are wheelchair-bound.
The organiser of Ama-Wheelies, Mr Moses Mlombo said: “We are not taken seriously because we visited the municipality concerning our petition, but no response has been forthcoming, to date. There are a lot of challenges that are faced by our members in society and that needs serious attention,”said Mlombo.
The spokesperson of the municipality, Mr Joseph Ngala said he will check with the relevant people regarding this matter. “We are not undermining them, we need to bear in mind that before you can respond to a petition, you must interact with various departments concerning some of the grievances that were raised,” he said.
