Three weeks of school stoppage in Marite continues

Teaching and learning ha been disturbed for the past three weeks in schools around Marite in Bushbuckridge Local Municipality following service delivery protests.

MARITE – Residents embarked on a violent service delivery protest demanding that the municipality construct proper and tarred roads for them. The residents threatened teachers to stop teaching and promised to burn schools if they continued.
Calcutta police said there were no arrests made so far.

Speaking during a prayer meeting with held at Ingwenyama lodge last week, MEC for department of education in the province Ms Reginah Mhaule urged community members not to disrupt teaching and learning during service delivery protests.

“I have received a report that in Marite there has been no schooling for the past few weeks. The issues that are being contested for , are outside of education yet children are made to suffer,” she said.
