Ehlanzeni TVET College sets the record straight on registration fee

The Ehlanzeni TVET College is distancing itself from rumours that R3 500 is needed to register.

MBOMBELA – Speaking to Mpumalanga News, chief communications officer Mr Mxolisi Nzimande set the record straight, “We have received queries from community members concerning the allegation of a registration fee of R3 500, which is not true, our registration is R200.

“We understand that some of the students might not have the money, but they can make arrangements. We believe that is not allowed to deny a child access to education just because at home parents don’t have money,” said Nzimande.

He indicated that if students did not have the necessary funds, parents could make arrangements to pay the money at a later stage. “Parents sign a declaration form, whereby they make a promise to pay the R200. It’s not a lot of money, and we never experience a problem where a parent signs a form and fails to pay the registration fee,” he added.

The college has taken note of the concern in this regard and shall investigate and take corrective measures in the case of misunderstandings or miscommunication.

This publication also learned that history was made at the college this year.
It had a total of11 000 students register. This is a substantial increase compared  to previous years, where they  normally registered about 9 000.

“We do away with the perception that society has of the college. There are people who see it as a dumping site for students who did not perform well in grade 12.

“We are grateful to see that students are showing interest in the college. Some of our programmes are a positive response to the resources we have in the province,” said Nzimande.
