Acornbush leads in Motsepe league

Both Academy and Premier need to use the Christmas break to beef-up their squads if they want to survive the dreaded axe

Acornbush United will enter the Christmas recess topping the Mpumalanga ABC Motsepe League.

United top the log standings with 35 points after 13 games.
Mapulaneng United follow with 29 points after 14 games – one more game than Acornbush.
Tim Sukazi charges, TS Galaxy, who showed promises to be among the title contenders when the season started, are in third place with 28 points after 14 games.
Acornbush, who have not yet tasted a defeat, have scored a whooping 48 goals in the 13 games they have played, making them strong league contenders.

Premier United, which purchased the status of Apollo XI at the beginning of the season, sit at the bottom of the 16 team log with six-points after 12 games. Newly promoted, Mphakathi Academy are in 15th place with seven-points after 14 games.
Both Academy and Premier need to use the Christmas break to beef-up their squads if they want to survive the dreaded axe.
The teams above them – FC Benfica, Mhluzi Black Rangers and Tjakastaad Junior Sheppards – have each accumulated 12 points after 14 games respectively.
Come April 8, 2017, when the curtain comes down in the ABC Motsepe League, the two teams to be relegated down to the SAB Regional League and the one to be promoted will be officially known.
But as things stand, both Academy and Premier are strong candidates to get the chop, while it seems there will be no team in the league that can stop Acornbush from clinching the tittle.
Acornbush, which ended last season as runners-up, have been rampant since the season started.
The last games of the year were held yesterday and at the time of going to press, the results were unknown.
Meanwhile, the league is expected to resume on January 14.
