Former Ligwalagwala FM Dj dies

His close friend of 20 years and popular events organizer, Mr Clifford Masinga said he will remember Maziya for his jolly character

MBOMBELA – Former well-known Ligwalagwala FM deejay, Mxolisi “Jikeleza” Maziya succumbed to a short illness on Monday at his house at Mzinti in Nkomazi.

Maziya started his journey at the SABC as an intern in 1998 and joined Ligwalagwala FM the following year as a music compiler. In the same year, he was subsequently given a weekend slot where he hosted a Saturday show called Party Time and introduced house music to the show.

He filled the gigantic footsteps of the former Ligwalagwala station manager Rio “Sgalamba” Mabunda as the Afternoon Drive show host in early 2000. He gave up the mic and joined government communication services in 2007. He left for greener pastures and relocated to Johannesburg where he started his construction business among, others.

His close friend of 20 years and popular events organizer, Mr Clifford Masinga said he will remember Maziya for his jolly character. “I saw him going through pain. I was never ready for his death. He was always willing to help others and I will remember him for being a straight talker. The past four months he has been telling me to organize his 40th birthday party that was due in October. We will always celebrate his life,” he said.

His funeral service will take place at Mzinti Community Hall on Saturday Morning.
