Angry man shot his ex-lover, her brother and himself

Hundreds of mourners attended the funeral and could not hold back the tears as the coffins were lowered into the graves.

SALUBINDZA – A 28-year-old woman and a 44-year-old man were shot dead in their house by the woman’s 23-year-old ex-lover on Women’s Day, last Tuesday.

Ms Nelsiwe Malumane and her brother, Mr Lucky Masilela were laid to rest next to each other during a sombre funeral ceremony at Salubindza cemetery this past weekend.

Hundreds of mourners attended the funeral and could not hold back the tears as the coffins were lowered into the graves.

The incident was immediately reported to the Masoyi police, and a manhunt was launched for the perpetrator. On the same night, the suspect, Mr Bonginkosi Ngomane, was traced to his hiding place in KaBokweni. He had shot and killed himself before he could be arrested.

It is alleged that the suspect gained illegal entry into the victims’ house at about 02:00.

According to the police, the suspect found Masilela asleep on a couch in the living room where he shot him in the head.

He then went straight to Malumane’s room and shot her too before fleeing the scene.

“We don’t know what the motive for the killings was and our investigation is still continuing.

The firearm was retrieved from the scene and has been sent for ballistic testing. It was discovered that the gun had been stolen during a robbery in Calcutta,” explained Sgt Gerald Sedibe, provincial police spokesperson.

The grieving family preferred not to comment on the incident when they were approached by this publication. “What will we gain from this pain we are feeling right now?” asked one of the members.
