201 suspects arrested in three days

The campaign was conducted between July 14 until the 17 in various areas falling within the Pienaar Cluster at Pienaar, Kanyamazane, Masoyi, Nelspruit, Kabokweni, Barberton, White River as well as Komatipoort.

MBOMBELA-A three days High Density Crime Operation Thunderstorm have resulted in the arrest of 201 suspects for various criminal activities around the Pienaar Cluster.

The campaign was conducted between July 14 until the 17 in various areas falling within the Pienaar Cluster at Pienaar, Kanyamazane, Masoyi, Nelspruit, Kabokweni, Barberton, White River as well as Komatipoort.

According to Brig Selvy Mohlala the suspects spent the weekend behind bars on various crimes ranging from foreign nationals who are illegally in the country, foreigners working in the country with valid documentation, businesses running liquor outlets with following the rules of the liquor act. One hundred and three motorists were arrested for having fines with the National Road Traffic Act.

“Eleven were arrested for illegal gambling, eight for unlawful possession of fire arm and ammunition, nine for driving under the influence liquor and fifteen for possession of drugs,” he adds.

“Other five suspects were arrested for possession presumed stolen property, one for presumed stolen vehicles, five for not complying with the second hand goods act, one of possession of dangerous weapon and for resting arrest,” he adds.

The arrests were a results of a successful operation between various sectors of law enforcers including members of visible policing, tactical response team, K9 Unit, crime intelligence, public order policing, mounted unit, vehicle identification service, local criminal record centre, air wing, support services, detectives as well as other stakeholders from the security sector such as the departments of Community Safety, Security and Liaison, Home Affairs, Traffic and the South African Receiver of Revenue.

A number of items were confiscated during the operation, including a 303 rifle, nine of 303 ammunitions, a revolver; a homemade firearm (Hunting rifle), a 7.62 star pistol, a 7.62 ammunition; a silencer, 8.76kg of copper.

A number of suspected stolen building materials including five door frames, nine wooden doors, ten plasma television sets, two laptops, 151 cell phones, five boxes of chips, 20 dangerous weapons, 39 cartons of illicit cigarettes, a Toyota Yaris and Ford Figo.
The operation confiscated dagga worth R5000 well as R450 cash.
