Masoyi teen murder suspect still on the loose

Local police are searching for an 18-year-old man in connection with a series of crimes committed in less than a month.

MGANDUZWENI – Local police are searching for an 18-year-old man in connection with a series of crimes committed in less than a month.

According to the police, the suspect is responsible for the shooting of two pupils just outside Jerusalem High three weeks ago.

“On Friday, the suspect, together with three others, shot and killed a man in his house.

We managed to arrest the three who confirmed that their accomplice was the same man we were looking for in connection with the school shooting,” said Const Naniki Nonyane.

Nonyane added that the suspect was wanted for several other crimes including house breaking and possession of unlicensed firearms.

“We are talking about a very dangerous young man who is a threat to the community and we urge anyone with information that might lead to his arrest to come forward and help us put him behind bars,” added Nonyane.

Meanwhile, several community members told Mpumalanga News that they feel threatened by criminals wherever they go because there were many suspects who still moved around freely.

“Somehow I feel like as much as the public should assist in bringing the perpetrators to book, the police are not doing enough to arrest these people who are a threat to innocent people.

We are not free at all. Almost every week we hear about dangerous suspects that the police failed to arrest and we go through serious trauma because we don’t know what their next move is,” said a frightened Sam Masilo.

Masilo added that it was very unfortunate that there were gang members on the loose who were targeting witnesses.

“It’s difficult for people to come forward with information because they fear for their lives.

The police should tighten their grip and apprehend criminals who are terrorising communities,” added Masilo.
