Shongwe to address Nkomazi plagues

Cases of car hijacking, livestock theft, and mob justice have engulfed the area and managed to draw the attention of the MEC.

SCHOEMASDAL – Nkomazi has been in the spotlight lately, all for the wrong reasons. Cases of car hijacking, livestock theft, and mob justice have overwhelmed the area and managed to draw the attention of Mpumalanga Community Safety, Security and Liaison, MEC Vusi Shongwe.

Shongwe will be visiting the area on Saturday to address these issues.

He will be hosting an imbizo at Schoemansdal, MJ Junior Sports Ground, to interact with the different communities in addressing these problems, starting at 09 am.

“Schoemansdal is bordering Mozambique and Swaziland and there are numerous incidences of vehicle theft particularly light delivery vehicles (LDVs) and cattle. It is alleged that the stolen livestock and LDVs are then smuggled out of the country through the illegal crossings along the borderline.

“This has led to communities taking law into their own hands against those that they were suspected of crime in the area. A number of mob justice cases where suspects were burnt to death were reported in Nkomazi recently,” said the department’s Spokesperson Mr Joseph Mabuza.

The Imbizo is also expected to contribute towards the enhancement of good relationship between the community and SAPS such that communities are able to work with the police and other law enforcement agencies to solve crime cases.
