Police officers arrested for corruption

Their arrest follows allegations of corruption regarding to a suspicious release of a suspect from KwaMhlanga.

KWAMHLANGA- Two police officers and two civilians appeared in court in connection with corruption.

Capt Molefe Masombuka (50), Const Christopher Mahlangu (34) together with two civilians, Mr Patrick Roger Babedi (33) and Mr Tebogo Ezekia Letshweni (35) recently appeared before the KwaMhlanga Magistrate’s Court on charges of corruption, defeating the ends of justice and conspiracy to commit crime.

The four were arrested on February 13 during an operation held by the members of the crime intelligence, tactical response team and the directorate for priority crime investigation’s anti-Corruption unit in the province.

This follows allegations of corruption regarding to suspicious release of a suspect from KwaMhlanga.
“The suspect was arrested around December 2015 on a charge of pointing of firearm. Information at police disposal revealed that Babedi and Letshweni allegedly assisted the two officers to solicit and receive a bribe from the suspect hence their arrest on Saturday for conspiracy to commit crime and corruption,” explained Sgt Gerald Sedibe spokesperson for the provincial police.

Police further uncovered that the officers received an amount of R1 000 from the suspect who was detained for pointing of firearm and released on warning.

All four suspects were granted R2 000 bail each with strict conditions that they may not have any contact with the victim. The matter has been postponed to March 2, pending further investigation.
