Alleged thief stoned to death

Boss was allegedly attacked at the tavern on Wednesday night and tried to flee. His attackers caught up with him near a vacant stand where he was stoned to death with bricks.

MSHOLOZI – A 37-year-old man accused of terrorising the community was stoned to death a day after being released from lawful custody.

According to community members, who spoke on condition of anonymity, the victim known as Boss, was on a previous occasion assaulted by members of the community who accused him of a spate of robberies and theft in the area. He was rescued by police.
They said he was arrested and released on bail on several occasions. The last time it happened, he was apparently warned by residents not to set foot in Msholozi again or else they would teach him a lesson.

Community members said Boss was again released by the White River Magistrate’s Court and apparently went on a drinking spree at a local tavern where he boasted about being untouchable and a Boss, like his name resembled.

“We just heard that he boasted around and threatened to take revenge on those who assaulted him previously.
“He and his friends even had a gun,” said a source.

Boss was allegedly attacked at the tavern on Wednesday night and tried to flee. His attackers caught up with him near a vacant stand where he was stoned to death
with bricks. Police of White River were only called to the scene the following morning when they found Boss’s half-naked body buried under bricks with his feet and hands protruding. His underwear and shoes were discovered on the scene, while his trousers were not found.
“A murder case was opened and police investigations are still continuing.

He was murdered after charges of robbery and theft against him were withdrawn by the court. No arrests have been made so far,” said Const Cynthia Mbokodo.
