ANC and SACP kiss and make up

After ruffling each other's feathers 11 days ago, the ANC and South African Communist Party (SACP) have smoked the peace pipe as they announced during a joint media briefing that they were in cahoots with each other.

MBOMBELA – After ruffling each other’s feathers recently, the ANC and South African Communist Party (SACP) have smoked the peace pipe as they announced during a joint media briefing that they were in cahoots with each other.

Addressing the briefing in the presence of Ehlanzeni ANC and SACP leaders, the national party’s provincial treasurer,
Mr Andries Gamede said, “Mr DD Mabuza is the chairperson of the ANC which was elected by 3 500 delegates unopposed.

“In the same vein, Mr Bonakele Majuba is the SACP’s provincial secretary, also elected. We support the SACP, not individuals. No one in the ANC is opposed to the SACP, hence we condemn the fracas that took place at the KaNyamazane Community Hall on January 25,” Gamede said.

“It has been resolved in our deliberations that the SACP will reconvene the memorial lecture that had been envisaged and we will support them and will ensure it goes ahead without any hindrance.

We are in alliance, but they are an independent organisation as they are fighting for a classless society, but until then, we both participate in each other’s programmes.

“You cannot be a member of the SACP without membership of the ANC. We wish them well. Asked if the national party was in agreement with the speakers, he said, “We are not opposed to their speakers.

They are an independent organisation and have a right to run their organisation the way they want to, and we support it and we do not have any problem.”

Gamede further announced that the Ehlanzeni region of the ANC had convened a general council, to which it had invited its counterparts in the SACP on Tuesday. It took place at Mbombela Local Municipality.

“Ehlanzeni is thus formulating a structured programme to work hand in hand, the SACP and Cosatu, to ensure they relive the prescripts of the Freedom Charter as pronounced by president Mr Jacob Zuma during the January 8 statement celebration in Cape Town.

“We are going ahead as alliance partners and no disruptions will be forthcoming from the ANC from now, henceforth,” he ended.
