BARBERTON – The notorious gang known only as the “panga boys” which terrorised this town and surroundings, is behind bars and its members will make their first court appearance on Friday.
Confirming the arrest of this group, which has had communities fearing for their lives and being victims of rape, was the local police spokesperson, Const Tutu Nkosi, who said,
“I can safely confirm that we arrested seven suspects when we were conducting our operations in local taverns. They were found with pangas and were charged with possession of dangerous weapons.”
Both the police and the community worked tirelessly in a bid to bring this notorious group to justice.
Mpumalanga News has since reliably been informed that there is a similar gang within the townships of Mbombela, such as KaBokweni.
Even though it hasn’t been confirmed KaNyamazanewhether there was a link between the suspects in custody and the other gang, indications are that there might well be.
Information at this publication’s disposal proves that there were places that were turned into no-go areas during the festive season because of the panga gang.
Community members who spoke to this paper voiced their satisfaction and applauded the police for their speedy response in arresting the suspects.
Some members even vowed to go to court in a bid to oppose bail for the suspects.
