Crime escalates due to substance abuse

Another victim is fighting for his life at Themba hospital after he was also stabbed by a friend following differences beween them.

PIENAAR – As we are fast approaching the festive holidays, local police have already indicated that incidents of crime motivated by substance abuse is escalating.

Mpumalanga News has since established that just the past weekend alone, over 34 cases of assault GBH were reported at the Pienaar police station.

Speaking to Mpumalanga News, the spokesperson of the Pienaar police, Sgt Jabu Ndubane said “It’s towards festive holidays, leaners are no longer going to schools and what we are experiencing it’s very shocking.

This weekend alone, we have 34 cases of assault. We are worried that most of the people who are committing these crimes are young people, which, proves clearly that they are indulging in substance abuse”.

Ndubane added that in one of the incidents a 29 year old man lost his life after he was stabbed in Shishila village.
