MEC encourages the fight against women and children abuse

Community Safety, Security and Liaison MEC Vusi Shongwe will encourage communities around Phumula Village to act against abuse on women and children for at least 365 days.

MBOMBELA – Community Safety, Security and Liaison MEC Vusi Shongwe will encourage communities around Phumula Village to act against abuse on women and children for at least 365 days.

The campaign which started on November 25, promotes awareness about reporting any form of abuse to police stations and other civil society groups.

Government departments held numerous events throughout the province to create awareness on gender based violence.

According to Shongwe, the yearly campaign which kick started on today is characterised by numerouos activities aimed at heightening awareness around the abuse of women, children and people living with disabilities. The campaign ends on December 10, a day that has been declared International Human Rights Day.

During this campaign, government strengthens existing partnerships and collaborates with non-governmental organizations, community-based organizations, faith-based organizations and traditional leadership in order to curb the abuse of women, children and people living with disabilities.
