NELSPRUIT – The planned multi-billion rand multiple integrated human settlement development by the department of Human Settlement linking Nelspruit and White River will soon be rolled over to other areas of the province.

This was voiced by Mr Andrias Gamede, the MEC responsible for human settlement in the province during a cabinet briefing last week.

This project, linking the two towns will include vast housing projects that will comprise 828 middle income and 352 low cost houses, residential apartments, student accommodation and a parliamentary village.

“This is the beginning of many similar projects that will be implemented around the province. Government wants to bring the people closer to towns and their places of work.

This is just the first phase and we would be looking at doing the same in other areas as well,” said Gamede.

This massive project includes other economic projects such as Mpumalanga International Convention Centre, and an up-market hotel.

Both government and the H.L Hall and Sons Properties committed themselves to avail the prime land to the provincial government for development which is between Nelspruit and White River.

Asked what will happen to establishments such as Msholozi and Phumlani settlements, Gamede said they will also be part of and stand to benefit from this development.

Gamede further hinted to this paper that the benefits that will come with the project, are going to be immense and will benefit local people in terms of jobs that will be created during the construction the multiple projects and the bulk infrastructure, upgrading and rehabilitating the existing road networks as well as construction of new access roads.

The Mpumalanga Convention Centre will comprise of the main amphitheatre, meeting rooms, halls and a clinic that could host big international events.

The student accommodation will cater for students that will be enrolling at the University of Mpumalanga.
