JAC Motors to introduce T9 range of bakkies in 2023

Bakkie buyers know what they want, and JAC Motors sets out to get into tune with them.

South Africans love their bakkies. For some, it empowers them. For others, it is simply a multitool par excellence.

They pay a premium for their bakkies and then continue to spend a fortune on accessories to make it look bigger, more butch and masculine. This trend is not exclusive to men only, but women are less prone.

JAC Motors will be introducing its T9 range of bakkies in 2023, and by the looks of it, it is designed to impress and capture interest and lighten many wallets.

The T9 turbodiesel derivative will be introduced in South Africa and Australia in the second semester of next year, with a PHEV derivative following at the end of 2023. The battery-electric derivative’s introduction is planned for early 2024.

“We are excited about the imminent arrival of the new T9 Hunter range. Bakkie buyers will love its large body design, because local customer research highlights that a bakkie’s actual size is one of the most important buying motivators when it is purchased,” said Karl-Heinz Göbel, CEO of JAC Motors South Africa.

The T9 Hunter’s 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbodiesel engine produces 125kW and 410Nm and sends power to the wheels via an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission.

Its active and passive safety feature list includes seven airbags, autonomous emergency braking, forward collision warning, rear cross-traffic alert, blind spot monitoring, lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, tyre pressure monitoring, a surround-view parking camera and Isofix child seat anchors.

Other standard equipment includes a 10.4″ touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto smartphone mirroring, wireless phone charging, a 7″ driver information screen, heated power-adjustable front seats, partial leather trim, a 220V power outlet and climate control with air ducts for passengers in the back of the cab.

Pricing and standard specification for the JAC T9 Hunter range will be announced closer to its launch next year.
