Imagine – a comfortable Porsche for desert driving

This is not the car for the Tom, Dick, and Harry of this world - no sir - you need serious mula and even bigger, you know what.

As an ode to the Porsche win in the 1984 Paris-Dakar Rally, you can now drive – if you are lucky enough to get your hands on one – a Porsche 911 Dakar. Lucky because the production will be limited to 2 500 only.

Its suspension will be 50mm higher than that of the standard model. It can be raised another 30mm if you so wish and most amazing is that it will still allow speeds up to 170km/h.

Power from the six-cylinder biturbo will be 353kW and 570Nm with sprint times given as 0-100km/h in as little as 3.4 seconds. Top speed is limited to 240m/h because of the all-terrain tyres.

It is fitted with an 8-speed PDK gearbox and will boast launch control also.

Porsche recently introduced a rooftop tent for its cars and for the Dakar derivative will have a roof basket for carrying extras like water and fuel cans, shovels, and traction boards.

The new Porsche 911 Dakar can be ordered now via Porsche Centres.
