Mrijo The Havock is about to unleash more havoc

Mrijo has reached a wider audience through music, and he believes younger artists should learn from older artists.

It seems as though Mrijo The Havock’s best is yet to come as he blessed his fans with a new song called Umuntu Ngabantu, [I am because of other people] in anticipation of his Briga Bova album and a documentary.

Mrijo’s real name is Richard Mdluli-Manzini, a kwaito artist based in Midrand who has been influenced by jazz, gospel, and traditional music throughout his life.

“I got my name Mrijo The Havock from the streets of Tembisa. Mrijo is derived from Richard, while Havock is derived from me being good at what I do in music,” he explained.

“I value my fans a lot, because even when I make visuals for my songs, I inform them so that they can join me. This is why I decided to provide this single before the main project.”

The Mzansi Kwaito and House Music (MKHM2021) special category award winner has been nominated again this year under the category of best kwaito artist by the MKHMA2022 and the voting closes on September 22.

MKHM seeks to create a platform of recognition for kwaito and house as genres and provide an equal share of growth for artists in the genres.

South Africa’s kwaito and house talent is honored, recognised, and appreciated through this platform, which develops and gives exposure to upcoming artists.

“I am nominated because my kwaito is different but it still remains original kwaito with that South African sound in it,” said Mrijo.

Throughout his musical journey, Mrijo has reached a wider audience and believes that younger artists should learn the basics of the industry from the older ones.

As a young boy, he was also inspired by some of the big names in kwaito such Spikiri, Mdu, and Arthur, and has performed alongside the likes of Pitchblack Afro, Spikiri, Jakarumba, Turbo no Seven, and Thebe.
Despite doing kwaito, he does not limit himself to only one genre due to his versatile approach, which has allowed him to work with a variety of artists in different genres.

With kwaito being labeled as a death genre and the likes of amapiano taking over, Mrijo believes that amapiano is definitely the biggest genre in South Africa right now, and is therefore willing to work with the artists, although he also believes that kwaito is not a death genre as some of the amapiano songs use kwaito samples.

Details: Locals can send an SMS with the name MKHMA BKA MRIJO THE HAVOCK to 40439 to vote for Mrijo.
