Local songstress debuts her EP under the new local record label

CARLSWALD — The record label scooped her up after she posted several videos on social media singing with her lullaby voice.

A native of Durban but now living in Carlswald, a young talented and versatile Zulu songstress Amahle Gasa recently debuted her first body of work, an Extended Play (EP) titled Zulu Princess.

The 19-year-old singer and songwriter started singing at an early age. Her first experience in singing was in church and as she matured in her vocal abilities, she started writing songs and making music with local producers in Durban.

Gasa did not dedicate much time to studying, which she does not seem to regret since she knew what her fate was.

“School is no longer solely the source of knowledge for artists to learn more about their craft because of our access to other sources where we can obtain information and knowledge about our craft and music as a whole,” Gasa said.

Her move to Johannesburg has not only changed her scenery but also opened up doors to the possibility of greener pastures. She is already enjoying a promising musical future under the wing of Moruo Records, Noordwyk’s newly established record label.

The record label scooped her up after she posted several videos on social media singing with her lullaby voice.

“It is a blessing to now stay in Johannesburg, where there seems to be a bigger cake than that of Durban. The cake is big enough for everyone this side.”
Gasa’s hit single from the EP is Ngiyahamba, which means I am leaving. Choosing a cover song from all the six songs on the EP was a difficult task for Gasa and her team at Moruo.

She said the song was very relatable to both young and old people of South Africa since gender-based violence had been and continues to be a burden on our people.

The song speaks about a woman who has been abused by her partner and cannot take it anymore, after giving the partner countless chances.

“I personally have not been physically abused by any partner but I have witnessed people close to me going through abuse. I have read on social media about many gender-based violence stories. This is me translating all their cries in the song.”

The EP is available on all digital platforms such as Itunes, Spotify, Deezer, Google Play, and many more.
