Author restores hope with new book

MIDRAND – Lashane Robert said her book is a guide that speaks about journeying through grief.

Author and businesswoman Lashane Robert wants to restore hope with her recently published book.

The book, Brocaded Hope, is a guide that speaks about a journey of grief. Robert said the idea came at the beginning of Covid-19. As the numbers rose, people lost loved ones due to the pandemic – and many had trouble handling it.

“The sad part, which continues until today, is that when you lose somebody, they are just a number now. The whole traditional way we used to mourn and grieve back then has been taken away from us,” she added.

“The result being, we are all slipping into a deep depression because we are not allowed to think or express ourselves. We are forced, under the current circumstances, to function normally.”

The book encourages readers to express themselves and their grief freely. Robert explained that, in a nutshell, it says ‘it’s okay to be mourning, to be angry, to need to vent, and so forth.

She added that the book accommodates everyone – adding that there are a lot of children suffering from anxiety disorders due to how they had to adjust to their losses and fears.

She concluded that, with losing both her parents a few years ago, she wanted to encourage others to choose positivity. “You get to choose, do you want to wallow in sadness or celebrate their lives. And that is what Brocaded Hope advocates. Celebrate the beauty of those you have lost, celebrate their joy and laughter, all the amazing things about them. In the process, you heal yourself.”
