A local read for Heritage Day

The Wilderness Between Us is Penny Haw’s debut adult novel (she’s published a first class children’s book) and is a really enjoyable read.

Touching on anorexia, emotional abuse, betrayal and obsession, the book is set in the Tsitsikamma area, and revolves mainly around two women, one older, with an awful controlling husband, the other younger, suffering from an eating disorder, but determined to beat in her own unconventional way.

The two are thrown together when they’re separated from the rest of their hiking party after a flash flood.

Penny sets the scene perfectly and the book – like the hiking party – strides along at a rapid rate. A great buy for those who like a suspense novel and who appreciate nature.
