Four suspects are caught

IVORY PARK – Four men were expected to appear in the Tembisa Magistrates' Court on 12 March following their arrest in Ivory Park’s Ext 2 on 11 March.

Four men were expected to appear in the Tembisa Magistrates’ Court following their arrest in Ivory Park for the alleged possession of stolen goods on 11 March.

Spokesperson for the Ivory Park Police Station, Captain Bernard Matimulane, said the property they were found in possession of was stolen earlier in the day from a courier company vehicle in Johannesburg.

He added that the suspects, whose ages range from 29 to 44, were arrested by the Gauteng Highway Patrol after they were found offloading the items in the area.

“While on their routine duties, the officers received information that a blue [Volkswagen] Kombi was seen being offloaded at the property. On their arrival, the officers found the men busy, and one of the suspects managed to flee the scene,” said Matimulane.

He added that the officers recovered eight different makes of cell phones, shoes and T-shirts. “They were identified as some of the items taken during the robbery in Johannesburg by a group of men travelling in two vehicles.”

He said the vehicle used to offload the items was also confiscated. “The hunt for other suspects is under way, and the four will appear in the Tembisa Magistrates’ Court to face a charge of possession of stolen goods.”

The acting station commander of the Ivory Park Police Station, Colonel Baba Mpotoane welcomed the arrest, and said he was fully confident that his detectives would arrest the other suspects. “This arrest should serve as a warning to other Ivory Park-based criminals that this place is not a hideout place for criminals and criminal activity. The long arm of the law will always catch up with them like it did with this four.”
