Sundowns boss Motsepe is new Caf president

JOBURG – Khoza says Motsepe might have had a premonition as he was the only PSL club boss called president.

The chairperson of the National Soccer League (NSL) Dr Irvin ‘Iron Duke’ Khoza has showered praise on Dr Patrice Motsepe for his ascendency to the presidency of the Confederation of African Football (Caf).

Khoza said the NSL, which is the custodian of the professional football league brand in South Africa, the Premier Soccer League, would like to extend its well-wishes to Motsepe following his election victory at the Caf presidential elections on 12 March.

Motsepe is the president of Mamelodi Sundowns, a member club that plies its trade in the 16-team PSL, and becomes the second Southern African football executive to ascend to the Caf presidency, which is the African continental football world governing body of Fifa.

“On behalf of the NSL, I would like to celebrate the ascendency of Dr Motsepe to the highest pinnacle of football administration on the continent. It appears to us that he had a premonition when he joined the PSL for the first time. He was the only club owner who was referred to as president and now it is a reality. We wish him well on the journey ahead,” Khoza said.
