Councillor Gololo wishes community a happy festive season

IVORY PARK – Ward 133 councilor Julia Gololo appeals to community members to adhere to all Covid-19 regulations as the virus is still alive.

Ward 133 councillor Julia Gololo looked back at the year and shared her hopes for the ward in the coming year.

Gololo commended the City of Johannesburg for how they fought Covid-19. “Even though some people did not understand why certain actions were taken, a lot of the people complied.
“We know some of the people went out because they had to make ends meet, which is understandable because they had no choice, and every household in the ward was able to benefit from the distributed food parcels which were distributed to relieve the burden from residents.

“Our community fought to help one of the Pakistan shop owners who fell sick during the lockdown, which is a big highlight because people from outside countries are sometimes sidelined from using our facilities, and just recently we were able to, through the help of Eskom, unbundle about three informal settlements.”

She added that the negatives for the year were that the pandemic halted all projects. “Just when we were about to fix the roads and the lights and so forth, we could not do anything as we were asked to go into a hard lockdown.”

Gololo hoped that next year all the projects which were planned could get a push start so progress could be made.
“For Christmas and New Year, I ask that our community members not to take advantage of the freedom we have been given. Covid-19 is very much still alive and it reaps silently without being seen. Therefore, I urge that we all follow the necessary procedures and wash our hands, wear our masks and should stop being in crowded areas or being in crowds.”
