Midrand fashion designer gives back to young girls

MIDRAND – Midrand fashion designer, Lebohang Mzobe is making sure that no girl is left behind.

At just 21 years old, Midrand fashion designer Lebohang Mzobe is using her talent to give back to young girls.

Mzobe is a sister to three and a breadwinner. She specialises in designing evening gowns and is passionate about empowering young people through fashion.

Through her newly established initiative The Girl Movement, Mzobe gives away three custom-made dresses each school term to girls who can’t afford to buy their own. “I have never liked the feeling of being left out and I never like it when other people feel left out. I am very religious, I believe firmly in Christ and I have always wanted to express the grace and the love of God.

“I found that the best way to do that was through this initiative where I can get other girls who are not privileged to not feel left out. I want to fill that void of feeling left out from your peers.”

The tag line of her initiative is ‘never leave a sister behind’. “The initiative was inspired by my story – when I was in matric, I could not afford the whole experience, and luckily I had people with me who were able to make that experience happen for me.

“What I decided to do was that, with the money I get from clients I keep the petty cash and use it for the girls’ dresses. I make the custom dresses and then organise a team to their make-up and do their nails, which are done by a nail company which I have partnered with. The only thing we are missing is someone to do their hair, which we hope to get soon, and then we have a photographer who is able to capture the whole experience.”

Mzobe appealed to the community to come on board and help make an entire experience out of a young girl’s dream. “It would be nice for people to sponsor money or fabric if they do not want to sponsor money. To donate, they can contact me on 076 487 8487 or alternatively follow me on Instagram at Innprint_Fashion, send a direct message or just email me on lebohangmzobe@gmail.com, tell me how you would like to donate.”

Mzobe expressed her gratitude for her team adding that they are very generous. “I believe as the business grows I will be able to afford and pay them because there hasn’t been any challenge.”
