Upcoming Artist hopes to one day make it in the industry

IVORY PARK – There's a long road ahead, but this young aspiring musician is determined.

The South African music space has seen upcoming artists flourish over the years.

While the industry can make or break an artist, upcoming musicians hope they will be success stories that will put South Africa on the map. One such young man hoping to make a name for himself as a rapper is Sibulele Matamba, aka Myga.

Matamba, an Ivory Park resident who currently works at a shopping centre in Midrand, says he knows his music career will one day take off. He started rapping in 2015 and has a single, Ghetto Sauce, and has written a few songs.

Speaking about his music he said, “I have been working hard at making my craft better, but have only started recording my vocals in March this year.

“I mostly play hip-hop and a bit of pop and RnB. I’ve performed at Ivory Park North Hall and One Stop Corner Lounge in Ivory Park Ext 3.”

The 19-year-old is inspired by world-famous artists such Drake, J. Cole, Kendrick Lamar, Jay Z and Future, and local artists like Aka, Cassper Nyovest and Kid Tini.

“I have learnt that if you want to do music you should be sure of what you want and have a lot of patience. Music in South Africa is growing and people are starting to take rappers seriously as the hip-hop genre has amazingly grown over the past four years,” said Matamba.

He said he will be one of the great stories to come out of Ivory Park. Look out for him on the music charts in the years to come.
