Communities in Midrand enjoy Halloween fun

GLEN AUSTIN – It was a spooky weekend in Midrand on 28 and 29 October.

A number of Midrand communities hosted Halloween events in their gated communities and complexes but Glen Austin parents wanted to do something special with their children because it wasn’t practical for them to go from house to house in the community.

SOS Wellness and Glen Austin Moms events held their Halloween event on the DeVos farm in Glen Austin for more than 200 guests who joined in the fun.

They were supported by 20 community volunteers who helped with the entertainment of the children.

After dark visitors participated in a trick or treat walk with some very scary characters who played tricks and handed out treats to the guests.

To make the characters look as realistic as possible, Maggie Nagel from Queen Elsa’s Party Experience and two of her face painting friends, Nella Marie Herbs and Christa Kriel, spent hours painting the volunteers’ faces and doing makeup. Bernie de Haas is the artist who made all the props.

Various competitions were held including a Jack-o-Lantern pumpkin cutting, pumpkin pie and best-dressed competition. Prizes were sponsored by Table 29, Chiromed and Homes Away From Homes.

Keith Burrows did his magic as the DJ and kept the guests entertained while Liesl Percy Lancaster from GSI Spice Blends kept the guests fed with her food stall. The Bedouin tent and beer fest table and bench sets were sponsored by Kai Bahmann from IPC and the venue was made available by the De Vos family.

The host and organisers of the event want to thank parents who brought their families to the event and went through the effort of dressing the kids and themselves up in amazing outfits.
