Sustainable future living and alternative technology goes big in Midrand

MIDRAND – Sustainable living and alternative technology venue opens its doors in Midrand.

The Brown Earth Trading Venue launched their first weekly Rustic Sunday Market in Glen Austin on 27 August.

The venue had 18 stalls offering a wide variety of foods, crafts, and rarities including prawn curry, pizza, potjiekos, curries, and kebabs, as well as popular vegan and vegetarian cuisine from the Flipside café.

Fresh produce was in great supply from two different farms, highlighting the venue’s brand of sustainable future living and food from source. Accompanying some of the fresh produce at one stand, were two chefs who were helping customers choose ingredients and making fresh smoothies straight off the stand.

Healthy foods, healthy living. The Rustic Sunday Market offers residents an alternative lifestyle.

The venue hopes to offer exhibitions, demos, and informative but entertaining talks as well as work shops on sustainable living, alternative technologies and will be offering a garden school for adults and children with a general store called the Trading Post, which will open soon.

Ice cream, a jumping castle, games, and competitions for both adults and children had the children resisting their parents’ calls to leave at the end of the day.

The market has various stalls to pique residents’ interests.

Offering a busker’s agreement, the venue managed to set a pretty high standard with Mia-Kama singing on stage with her guitar making the ambience sublime. Other performers who brought their talents to the venue included reggae band Black Faith with their djembés and guitar act. Many other interesting performers will be scheduled in for the weekly market.

The Rustic Sunday Market will be hosted every Sunday and aims to do more than offering a market for the purpose of buying and selling but will also inform people about climate change and our ever changing future.

The market can be found at 204 Allan Road, Glen Austin. Details: brownearthvenue@gmail.com

The Rustic Sunday Market welcomes all residents, including our four-legged friends.
