The International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) globally and in South Africa, including its Midrand branch, will host a festival on 15 August to celebrate Sri Krishna Janmashtami.

This day is usually celebrated by ISKCON in more than 75 countries as well as many Hindu residences across the globe. Janmashtami is the celebration of the appearance of Krishna on earth and is celebrated with great fervour by millions of people across the world, explained ISKCON Midrand’s temple president RadheShyam Das.

Das said, “ISKCON is known for celebrating this festival with special fervour. The temple has a series of programmes and events lined up. We will have activities for children and adults such as music and drama and a free vegetarian feast on the day.

“This community-wide festival is free and open to all, a perfect event to invite neighbours and colleagues to showcase the rich Vedic culture which contributes to Midrand’s diversity.”

He said that residents are welcome to attend the festival.

The festival, which commences at 6.30pm on 15 August will be held at Halfway House Primary School, 291 Van Heerden Road, Midrand.
