Murder mystery and suicide

SANDTON – A man, who allegedly hung himself, was found close to another murder scene and the two deaths could be linked.

A suicide allegedly proceeded a tragic murder in Buccleuch, Sandton, on 17 November, but an investigation is still ongoing to establish whether or not the two deaths are actually linked.

Netcare 911 spokesperson, Athlenda Mathe explained, “A middle-aged man was found hanging from a tree on the banks of a river near the Old Pretoria Road in Buccleuch, Sandton. The exact details as to what happened will form part of a police investigation and comment.”

She said that when Netcare 911 paramedics arrived on the scene, they found that the man had already died. “Paramedics had to get the assistance of a Netcare 911 rescue officer to access the man. The man was declared dead at the scene. This incident happened on 17 November at about 9pm.”

According to police spokesperson, Lieutenant Kay Makhubela, a man received a suicide text message from his sister’s husband. The message also explained where he would be able to find his body.

“This person alerted the police but they [the man and the police] could not find the body at the exact location specified in the message.

“The police did, however, find a body [at a different location to the one specified in the text message] hanging from a tree. At this point, it is unclear who exactly the man in the tree is.”

The story has taken a dramatic twist as this man was not the only deceased resident found on 17 November and there is speculation that the two deaths could be linked.

A woman, with a fatal stab wound, was found in her shack in close proximity to the tree where the man’s lifeless body hung.

The Sandton Chronicle will follow the story for updates.
