Jodie Foster talks Money Monster

JOAHNNESBURG - Learn more about how Jodie Foster creates a Money Monster.

The movie, Money Monster is the much-anticipated thriller starring George Clooney, Jack O’Connell, Jodie Foster and Julia Roberts – a collaboration that could never disappoint movie fans.

The film, directed by Jodie Foster, was officially released in South Africa on 3 June after months of delay following the initially set release date in the US.

Having finally made its way to our shores, actors Foster and O’Connell wanted the public to know something more about the exciting movie. “In our story, George Clooney is a financial talk show host who touts a stock he says can’t lose,” Foster explained.

“A young kid invests in it at the height of the market, there’s a glitch, and in nine minutes he loses everything. And, the company has lost $800 million and doesn’t know where it is. So the kid comes onto the show with a gun and a bomb and takes the host hostage. The rest of this movie is this sort of ticking time-bomb about what this kid is going to do,” she continued.

While bringing together a stellar cast makes the production of the movie a whole lot easier, they were still faced with a few challenges, Foster explained, “The stuff that was really hard, the hardest stuff, was filming Julia in an eight-by-fifteen room. That was impossible.

“That was definitely the hardest part of the movie. Because you have 40 screens in front of her and each one has something on it. And she’s relating to them all. Sometimes they’re green-screen. But most of the time they’re not. They’re playback. She has to time all of her dialogue to that, and then we have to match exactly what’s happening at that time… it’s complicated,” Foster said.

O’Connell concluded, “I think all of the performances really ring true on screen. I think it’s poignant because it relates to a lot of people’s financial concerns at the moment – and it offers a human tale through Jodie’s direction. I think she’s done a blinding job.”
