Inspiring the youth to perform

JOHANNESBURG – Dam Ditty Doo showcases South Africa’s talents in Braamfontein

Braamfontein’s Alexander Theatre will light up with amazing dance and the sound of fantastic South African music to showcase the talent of the local youth.

Dam Ditty Doo Art Connection, an initiative which aims to facilitate the growth of children’s talent and introducing them to the world of visual and performing arts, is set to host an exciting concert on 26 May at the Alexander Theatre.

The NPO was initiated by musician, Patrick Gammon, and designer, Danielle Wensky in Germany in 2002, in an attempt to teach the youth how to combat racial issues and express themselves through performing arts.

Wensky’s daughter, Ginger Wensky, brought the idea over to South Africa just two years ago and has since made a great impact in the country.

Currently, the organisation holds a number of classes for the youth in Westbury and they’re looking to expand to other areas such as Alexandra, Eldorado Park and Tembisa.

“We give them a platform to work on their talent and then a place to showcase them,” said Ginger.

Some of the artists in the line-up for the show include Hakuna Matata acrobats from Tanzania and the Bambanani Brass Ensemble, the best of Johannesburg’s dancers such as Charlie van Rooyen, Juan Carlos Osma and Golda Rabe, and even South African rap sensation Ricky Rick.

The event will showcase the talent of the students who form part of Dam Ditty Doo and give them a chance to take to the same stage as some of the country’s best performers.

The event will also act as a fundraiser to support the youth in underprivileged areas by offering a holiday workshop camp to promising, young performers to develop their skills, afford them the chance to travel, discover South Africa and experience a better quality of life.

Help South Africa’s creatives shine through their talent by attending the show on 26 May.
