Johannesburg gets Frosted

JOHANNESBURG – Albert Frost visits the city and brings fans something new.

With more than two decades of experience in the music industry, Albert Frost is now offering his fans something new.

The musician, who broke into the South African music industry as a part of the band called the Blues Broers in 1994, is now venturing away from his signature blues sound as a solo artist.

His third solo album titled The Wake Up is his latest offering to his undying fans and was described by the musician as the ‘start of a new journey’.

“It’s called The Wake Up and because I’m known mainly as a blues musician, it’s something new for me because I’m kind of venturing into new territory,” said Frost.

“It’s not essentially blues-based, although it is a guitar-based album. It’s a bit less bluesy and a bit more me.”

Frost, who has co-written a number of hits with household names such as Arno Carstens and Chris Chameleon, is no stranger to collaboration and continued to produce this highly-collaborative music on his new album.

On his tour of the country to promote the album, Frost will be accompanied by Schalk Joubert on the bass guitar and Jonno Sweetman on the drums – two musicians who come highly commended by Frost.

“I’ve had more than 30 bands over the years, but these guys are just a magical combination,” Frost began.

“It’s an open form for me so we kind of just do what we feel like. We’ll be playing a song on stage and think this section sounds great, and we’ll stay on that for a while before getting back to the song. They’re also jazz players so they know how to improvise and follow me around [musically].”

Being back in Joburg to tour, Frost said that he loves to visit Greenside for some drinks, but this time you’ll be able to catch him at the Good Luck Bar in Johannesburg on 27 April.
