Think Theatre’s Othello on tour

JOHANNESBURG – Think Theatre’s critically-acclaimed school production of Othello will tour Johannesburg from 9 to 20 May.

William Shakespeare’s incredible stage tragedy will be performed at the University of Johannesburg’s arts centre, as a salute to the 400th anniversary of the Bard, who died on 23 April 1616.

Think Theatre is an independent theatre company that specialises in performing set-work productions for students and producing cutting-edge original South African work. Many schoolchildren study Shakespeare’s writing as set-works, so the theatre’s production of Othello is widely appreciated. Its core themes of love, envy and betrayal remain powerfully relevant to the human condition.

The show is directed by multi-award-winning actor and director Clare Mortimer, who is also highly respected for her expertise as a writer and English teacher.

Durban’s Nhlakanipho Manqele will play the tragic role of Othello, while Cara Roberts takes on the role of his ill-fated young wife, Desdemona. Clinton Small will stun the audience with his portrayal of the villainous Iago and the rest of the cast includes Michael Gritten, Marc Kay, Bryan Hiles, Rowan Bartlett, Darren King and Sarah Richard.

Othello will be performed at the University of Johannesburg’ arts centre on UJ’s Kingsway campus from 9 to 20 May.
