The best of film and television actors and actresses shine at Saftas
MIDRAND - The well known and new actors and actresses in film and television walked the red carpet at the much-anticipated 10th South Africa Film and Television Awards held over two evenings at Gallagher Convention Centre in Midrand.
The event also celebrated 10 years of the South Africa Film and Television Awards and was hosted by Minnie Dlamini and Katlego Maboe, and on the red carpet, Somizi Mhlongo.
Chief executive officer at the National Film and Video Foundation of South Africa, Zama Nkosi, said the purpose of the first award night was to celebrate the technical craft of film and television production, the critical yet unsung heroes who are not in front of the camera. Nkosi said,”We congratulate the nominees and winners and hope to see them in the next years to come.”
The second night of the awards, sponsored by a partnership between McCafe, McDonald’s and Jeep, kicked off with a lively performance from artists Maboe, JSomething and Fifi Cooper.
The legendary Nomhle Nkonyeni was given the Golden Horn as the 2016 Lifetime Achiever Recipient. Nkonyeni’s contribution to the industry spans four decades as a stage, screen and TV actor and director.
Rhulani Baloyi was honoured as the 2016 Person with Disability Recipient. Her remarkable role as presenter of SABC 1’s Shift contributed towards the reexamination of the abilities of people with disabilities and she is a worthy first recipient of this new category.
