Would you know where you were if you saw this?

JOBURG - It's time for a little quiz to find out if you know the graffiti in your city.

With all its busy one-way streets and taxis lining each of them, the city can be a daunting place to visit and often puts people off venturing in to find out more about the place where gold was discovered in abundance.

However, even if you’re not a fan of the city and don’t frequent Johannesburg CBD, the street art seen here should be easily recognised.

This street art comes from a place that every person in Johannesburg and furthermore, every person in the country, should have visited at least once in their life.

Why is this so, you ask?

Well, this art is brought to you from the walls of Constitution Hill.

Constitution Hill was not only the birthplace of South Africa’s modern Constitution in 1994, but before that was also the place where struggle heroes such as Nelson Mandela and Mahatma Ghandi were imprisoned during apartheid.

The street art depicts the people who had the most influence on South Africa during the developmental and transitional years of the country.

Ghandi, Albertina Sisulu, Lilian Ngoyi, Fatima Meer, Eli Weinberg, Albert Luthuli, Joe Slovo, Robert Sobukwe and Oliver Tambo are just some of the faces painted on these historically significant walls.

From here you are only a short walk away from Joburg Theatre and just a few roads from the social hub on Melle, De Beer and Juta streets.

With all the events, tours and historical tales at this venue, there’s no reason why you would want to leave.
