Frankie Valli at Joburg Theatre

JOBURG - The musical Bye Bye Baby comes to the Mandela Stage at Joburg Theatre from 10 to 28 February.

Direct from London, Bye Bye Baby, which took the UK by storm last year is now set to take to the stage in Johannesburg. The show has been described as a fresh take on the story of Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons, an American rock and pop band that gained international success in the 60s and 70s.

Musical director of the much-anticipated show, Marc Ryzer, expressed great enthusiasm and eagerness to bring the show to life in South Africa.

“We are excited about visiting South Africa and bringing the show to the people of Johannesburg,” said Ryzer.

“The dates we have played in the UK since the show launched last year have been unbelievable. We have been playing to packed houses and the response has been incredible.”

The show takes audiences through the journey of Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons with all its highs and lows – right from the moment that the group was formed, to how they were admitted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and every step in-between.

The show features classics such as Big Girls Don’t Cry, Walk Like a Man, Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow, Silence is Golden, The Sun Ain’t Gonna Shine Anymore, Why Do Fools Fall in Love and Bye Bye Baby among others.

The internationally acclaimed show even features a four-piece live band to create the ambiance that was felt by the band’s fans, back in their heyday. “Our singers are of an incredible vocal range and quality,” said Ryzer.

“Our lead singer Jamie Ledwith sings in the same vocal range as Frankie Valli [falsetto] – and if you close your eyes, it really could be him.”

The Four Seasons’ Bob Gaudio, Tommy Devito and Nick Massi are played by Richard Campbell, Tim Kay and Daniel Goddard respectively.
