Singer, songwriter, and dancer pursues music career

JOBURG – An aspiring musician is determined to make a name for herself in the pop music industry.

Durban-born singer, Olisha Naicker, always knew from a young age that she wanted to pursue a career in music.

“My parents are huge fans of music so they would always play music when I was growing up and I instantly gravitated to it,” she explained. Naicker said she also taught herself how to dance.

“I’m a huge fan of Michael Jackson and The Backstreet Boys, so when I’d get home from school I’d study their dance moves in their videos, go to the mirror, try them, rewind the video, go back to the mirror and try again until I got it,” she explained. “That’s how I learned how to dance.”

One of Naicker’s favourite activities is songwriting. “Life situations inspire me to write songs,” she said. “I love the fact that songwriting has the potential to evoke all kinds of emotions from a person and, at times, it is very therapeutic.”

She recently released her self-penned first single, I Need You and is in the process of completing production on her debut album which is set for release this year.

She has already gained thousands of fans on Facebook and is excited to share her music with all her supporters.

Naicker added, “I have a laser-like focus when it comes to anything I do. If I set out to accomplish something, it’s my main focus until I accomplish it. Music is and will always be my first passion. It’s what I love to do.”
