Miss India Gauteng makes dreams come true

JOBURG - Sherianne Pillay, Miss India Gauteng 2015, is setting an example as a role model for the South African youth and giving the gift of dreams too.

Pillay, who is currently serving her 10th month of her reign, has taken on some serious responsibilities as the queen. “Apart from me completing my studies and serving articles, I would still love to continue the work I have been doing under my reign,” said Pillay.

“December 2015 saw me place first runner-up at Miss India SA and this has given me a platform to impact South Africa.”

DIAMOND IN THE MAKING: Sherianne Pillay, Miss India Gauteng 2015 and Miss India South Africa 2015 runner-up, is a role model, and law student at Wits University.

Pillay, who is also a Wits University student, is currently completing her degree in law as she navigates the life of a pageant queen and supports a number of noble causes.

Some of her causes have included Reach For A Dream’s Slipper Day, where she swapped her stilettos for some comfy slippers; Princess Diaries, an NPO that does counselling sessions with girls aged 12 to 20; and the Reach For A Dream Queen For A Day initiative where young girls facing life-threatening illnesses spend the day being pampered, in addition to being crowned queens for the day – with real pageant queens.

Since the launch of Princess Dairies, the initiative has expanded to include a broader spectrum of interaction, as Pillay takes on motivational and educational talks to teenagers throughout Gauteng.

The ambitious student and pageant queen is wasting no time in pursuing her dreams as soon as she completes her degree.

“It has also been a lifelong dream of mine to participate in Miss SA, so that will definitely be my goal in the next few years,” she said.

“I’d like to make a difference in as many lives as I may encounter throughout my lifetime. With that being said, I’d like to contribute towards society by getting involved with a beauty with a purpose project of my own.”

This young beauty is well equipped with brains too, and will continue to serve as a role model long after her reign as Miss India Gauteng has ended.
